Organized by the Philippine Science Journalists Association, Inc. (PSciJourn), AGHAM Partylist, International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA) and the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture – Biotechnology Information Center (SEARCA BIC).

Join the BIOTECH CAMPUS JOURNALISM CONTEST and get a chance to be published and visit biotech laboratories and facilities in the University of the Philippines Los Baños!

 

THEME

Students must submit a FEATURE ARTICLE with the theme: The Benefits and Potentials of Modern Crop Biotechnology in the Philippines. Information sources must be cited.

ELIGIBILITY

The Biotech Campus Journalism Contest is open to all aspiring student science journalists at the HIGH SCHOOL and COLLEGE LEVELS nationwide. Participants must be staff members of or contributors to their respective school media outfits such as school papers, radio program or online media.

GUIDELINES FOR ENTRIES

Entries that will be submitted through post mail must be in English, with a minimum of 700 words and a maximum of 1,000 words typed double-spaced, in Times New Roman font, size 12, with 0.75-inch top and bottom margins and 0.5-inch left and right margins in MS Word on A4 size bond paper.

They should be placed in a sealed envelope addressed and sent via registered mail, or personally delivered with signed receipts, to:

A separate sheet of paper with the following information, noted by the school media outfit adviser/teacher, must also be submitted:
a. Name
b. Age
c. Year level (indicate if high school or college)
d. School and School Address e. School media outfit (school paper, radio program, online media)
f. E-mail address
g. Cell-phone number/contact number
h. Mailing address

All entries must be submitted on or before October 31, 2012.

CRITERIA

The entries shall be judged in the first round to determine the 10 finalists from each level, on the basis of the following criteria:

(1) substance, content, originality, analysis and adherence to the theme 65%
(2) logic, organization and coherence 15%
(3) style and presentation 20%

PRIZES

The top three winners from both high school and college levels will receive the corresponding prizes:
> First Place – Php 15,000
> Second Place – Php 10,000
> Third Place – Php 7,000

The respective schools/college of the first place winners will also receive a Php 5,000 cash prize. The other seven finalists from both levels will receivePhp 2,000 cash prize each.

The top 3 winners will get the chance to have his or her work published in national print media publication/s and/or biotech-related websites and materials.

The 20 finalists will be entitled to join a two-day study tour to TV/radio station/s and newspapers publishing office/s, and biotech laboratories and field trials in the University of the Philippines Los Baños.

All winners and finalists will also receive an AGHAM Congressional medal.

All decisions of the Panel of Judges related to the Contest, the selection process and the selection of winners (both in the preliminary and final screenings), shall be final and irrevocable. The winners and finalists from each level (high school and college) will be awarded during the 8th National Biotech Week.
